Brand strategy – the DNA
The brand strategy sets all directions and algorithms for the brand, describing how it should work, look, behave, and function. Similar to the DNA of a living organism or a computer code. It’s the fundamental set of instructions for development, functioning, and growth.
Visual identity – the body
The visual and verbal identity could be seen as the name, face, body, and voice of the brand, created by following the instructions of the brand strategy (the DNA).
This is the so-called strategic design process, the design that is made to last for a long time and not easily adjusted. Of course, you could “lose weight”, change your name, or even have a facelift, but it would cost a lot and people wouldn’t recognize you anymore.
Communication – the clothes
Communication can be likened to clothes and what you say, adapted to external conditions such as seasons, situations, or purposes. The visual identity, based on the brand strategy, sets clear directions for specific styles, colors of choice etc. but you adapt it to various occasions. Sometimes you need to put on your suit, if it’s cold you need a warm jacket or if you are going to the pub, you might wear something else.
